La notte del 3 agosto 1944, quando le mine tedesche devastarono il centro antico di Firenze, è rievocata con la pubblicazione del Diario dei cinquemila dell’architetto Nello Baroni, rifugiato a palazzo Pitti assieme a una moltitudine di sfollati. Il bilancio dei danni non si limita ai ponti o alle torri, e il testo indaga la storia di edifici meno noti, ma di notevole interesse, come palazzo Acciaioli.
Lo studio sulla ricostruzione delle zone presso ponte Vecchio parte dal dibattito teorico sui criteri da seguire, approfondisce le complesse vicende decisionali, dal concorso ai piani esecutivi, e offre un’ampia esemplificazione degli edifici costruiti: una fase operativa sinora, paradossalmente, trascurata.

The night of August 3rd, 1944, when the German mines destroyed the historic center of Florence, is commemorated with the publication of the Diario dei cinquemila (Diary of the five thousands) by the architect Nello Baroni, a refugee in the Pitti Palace with a multitude of displaced persons. The damage was not limited to bridges or towers, and the text explores the history of buildings maybe less known but of considerable interest, as the Acciaioli Palace.
The study on the reconstruction of the areas around Ponte Vecchio starts from the debate on the criteria to follow; it explores the complex history of decision-making and it offers various examples of buildings: an operational phase paradoxically neglected until now.
