Diary of an anthropologist during an Italian Fascist expedition with richness of Africa’s striking atmosphere of one century ago.

At the end of 1938 was planned a scientific expedition to the East Africa, in order to deepen the knowledge of the local populations, a short time before being subjected to the Fascist Empire. At the head of the expedition there was professor Lidio Cipriani, director of the Anthropological Museum of Florence; Giuseppe Cei, who was only twenty, was his assistant.
The diary of the latter, written during those months, is the memory of that experience: a topical report about people and places -today still tormented by rivalries and wars-, where the scholar’s rigour very often surrenders to the young man and scientist’s astonishment and wonder.
The book includes a large set of photographs and is also enriched with the reproductions of twelve original watercolours by Silvana Silvi Cei, wife of the author, that represent the principal “racial groups” described in the Diary.
