Kees Overbeeke

Kees Overbeeke ha studiato psicologia presso la Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, in Belgio (Ma 1974). In seguito è entrato alla Facoltà di Industrial Design Engineering alla University of Technology di Delft, in Olanda, dove ottiene il suo dottorato di ricerca (1988) sulla percezione spaziale sugli schermi piatti. Ha guidato il gruppo di Form Theory come Professore associato dopo il suo trasferimento al Dipartimento di Disegno industriale di TU/e nel 2002. Durante l’anno accademico 2005-2006 fu Distinguished Nierenberg Chair al Design CMU Pittsburgh, USA. Nel 2006 è stato nominato professore ordinario a TU/e. Attualmente dirige il Designing Quality in Interaction group (DQI). DQI è composto da nove PhD-ed designers, ed è uno dei gruppi di ricerca più importanti al mondo. Lui crede fermamente che la design research possa essere un teoria guida e che la collaborazione con l’industria sia essenziale (tra le altre, collaborazioni con Philips, BMW, Unilever, Nissan, Adidas, and Microsoft).
Kees Overbeeke ha iniziato una serie di nuovi progetti di design research. Design ed emozione, funology, estetica dell’interazione, interazione profonda e design e etica. Ha pubblicto su questi temi in giornali, libri e pubblicazioni di conferenze. Ha co-ideato le conferenze “Design and Emotion” e “Designing for Pleasurable Products and Interfaces DPPI”. È stato relatore e membro del comitato scientifico,, di varie conferenze internazionali e relatore plenario al CHI 2009 a Boston, USA.
È inoltre editore e membro del comitato editoriale di diverse testate di design, guida nel settore.

Kees Overbeeke studied psychology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (Ma 1974). After working there, he moved to the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, where he gained his PhD (1988) on spatial perception on flat screens. He headed the group of Form Theory as Associate Professor until his move to the Department of Industrial Design of the TU/e in 2002. During the 2005-2006 academic year he was Distinguished Nierenberg Chair at Design CMU Pittsburgh, USA. In 2006 he was appointed full professor at TU/e. He now heads the Designing Quality in Interaction group (DQI). DQI consists of nine PhD-ed designers, and is one of the leading design research groups in the world. He strongly believes that design research should be theory driven, and that collaboration with industry is paramount (among others, collaboration with Philips, BMW, Unilever, Nissan, Adidas, and Microsoft).
Kees Overbeeke (co-)initiated several new subjects in design research: design and emotion, funology, aesthetics of interaction, rich interaction and design and ethics. He published extensively on these subjects in journals, books and conference papers. He (co-)initiated the “Design and Emotion” and the “Designing for Pleasurable Products and Interfaces DPPI” conferences. He was keynote speaker, and member of the scientific committee, of several international conferences, and has been plenary speaker at CHI 2009 in Boston, USA.
He is also editor and member of the editorial board of several leading international design journals.
