Catalog of the exhibition held from November 5th to December 31st, 2014 in the monumental halls of the National Central Library of Florence, the volume is dedicated to Giorgio La Pira and to his European message as the foundation of community institutions, in the current context of globalization of economic, social and cultural processes.
Texts and images cover the life of the statesman and the crucial moments of his mission, oriented towards peace and dialogue between peoples and tirelessly conducted by meeting the greats of the earth. Manuscripts, photos and newspaper articles also demonstrate the basis of his thought and the sources of inspiration of his political action.
“La Pira”, as Maria Letizia Sebastiani writes, “was a strong supporter of peace and unity of peoples at all levels and, in particular, he inspired the idea that the Mediterranean should not be a sea that divides the peoples but the “lake of dialogue” between the three great monotheistic religions, with the aim of arousing a dialogue between Christians, Jews and Muslims, namely the peoples, the nations and the cities that across millennia have developed their stories on its banks”.
