Introdotto da un testo di Marilena Tamassia sulla storia della fotografia in Toscana, il volume offre una panoramica approfondita sulla foto amatoriale nella regione e in particolare a Firenze, negli anni Venti e Trenta del Novecento. Al centro dell’analisi ci sono quelle persone che, con grande amore per la fotografia ma anche gusto e perizia tecnica, effettuavano scatti nelle loro città e nei loro ambienti offrendo una preziosa documentazione del territorio: il lavoro dei fotoamatori, fondato spesso su immagini dal taglio sapiente e inquadrature insolite, ha infatti il merito di restituire scorci cittadini ormai perduti, e con essi antichi volti, mestieri, saperi.
Nella ricerca retrospettiva di Daniela Cammilli grande importanza hanno avuto gli archivi locali, fondi in cui è possibile leggere il progresso della fotografia in termini tecnici ed estetici, ma anche la mutazione degli ambienti e l’evoluzione delle realtà sociali.

This volume, introduced by a text of Marilena Tamassia on the history of photography in Tuscany, provides a thorough overview on amateur photography in the region, and in particular in Florence, during the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. At the center of the analysis there are those people who, with great love for photography but also taste and technical expertise, made shots in their cities and environments, offering a precious documentation of the territory: their work has the merit of restoring lost perspectives, old faces and crafts. In the retrospective research of Daniela Cammilli local archives had a great importance: in those funds one can see the progress of photography in technical and aesthetic terms, but also the mutation of the environments and the evolution of social realities.
