Il volume ripercorre la storia del Museo Civico Archeologico di Fiesole, in occasione del centenario dalla fondazione. Molto più vasta di un secolo è però la sua vicenda: se infatti il trasferimento dei materiali archeologici nella nuova sede risale al 1914, il Museo era stato ufficialmente istituito nel 1878 per raccogliere la grande mole di reperti provenienti dal Foro Romano, grazie agli scavi qui condotti già a partire dai primi anni dell’Ottocento. La storia del Museo si intreccia dunque necessariamente con quella della città “antica” di Fiesole, la cui area archeologica si estende per tre ettari, oggi riassunti nelle stanze museali assieme a reperti provenienti da tutto il mondo.
Grazie alla cura di Marco De Marco e ai contributi di Carlo Salvianti e Mario Cantini, il presente volume offre così uno sguardo di insieme su questo scrigno di preziosi tesori (per citarne alcuni: i bronzetti votivi etruschi, la stele funeraria in pietra serena, i fregi marmorei e le sculture dal Teatro e dalle Terme, la stipe votiva etrusca del tempio di Minerva, le antefisse fittili e il torso di leonessa in bronzo) ricostruendo al contempo le vestigia di una città sepolta.

The book retraces the history of the Archeological Civic Museum of Fiesole, on the occasion of the centenary of its creation. Its story, anyway, is much longer than a century: if the transfer of archaeological materials into the new location dates back to 1914, the Museum was officially established in 1878 in order collect the great amount of relics coming from the Roman Forum, after the excavations conducted from the early Nineteenth century. The history of the museum is therefore necessarily intertwined with that of the “ancient” city of Fiesole, whose archaeological zone covers three hectares, now summarized in the museum rooms, together with exhibits from all over the world.
Thanks to Marco De Marco and to the contributions of Carlo Salvianti and Mario Cantini, this volume offers an overall view of this collection of precious treasures (Etruscan votive bronzes, funerary steles, marble friezes and sculptures from the theater and the thermal baths, terracotta antefixes, bronze statues...), reconstructing at the same time the remains of a buried city.
