This book is a companion to the identically entitled exhibit held in Florence in March-April 2012. It contains a historical introduction and sections on fruits for preserves, beverages, dishes, miscellaneous preparations, and old recipes. There is a rich selection of material produced by the Georgofili in the eighteenth and nineteenth century including manuscripts, treatises, periodicals, and gatherings of texts.
In addition to a full bibliography and a list of sources, there is a fascinating collection of one hundred proverbs on fruit and the four seasons.

Accompanied by four loose color facsimiles of fine vintage prints from the Academy’s image archive.
