Edited by Giustina Manica, this volume collects the texts of the speaches pronounced at the international congress held in Florence, October 21-22th 2010. The topic of the meeting has been the Tuscan Revolution of 1859, analysed as decisive passage to the conclusion of the Italian Risorgimento and the conquered unity.
The international meeting was aimed to compare the Italian Risorgimento process with different European realities with a specific attention to the German Risorgimento. It has also focused on the role of the French Second Empire, allied with the Reign of Sardegna until the Villafranca armistice and, mainly, the relevance of the British attitude and orientation to sustain the Italian fight for unity.
The volume is useful to acquire an historical deep knowledge on the role of the provisional Tuscan government leaded by Bettino Ricasoli in the Italian revolution and the first question and difficulties, internal and international, which Italian nation has to face.
