Catalog from the 2011 exhibit held at the Museo Stibbert in Florence. With its emphasis on the resurgence of themes from the past, the book shares the ideals of Frederick Stibbert, collector and patron of arts, in the creation of his museum. The catalogue brings together a rich and varied collection of nineteenth-century Florentine maiolica, from the Doccia manufactory and that of Cantagalli. It includes small pieces interesting from the point of view of technique, and large monumental works also of great beauty. Many are unpublished and come from private collections, whilst others have been lent by illustrious institutions overseas. Of particular importance is the documentation from the Cantagalli archives, preserved at the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza, which has now been computerized for the first time and has been made available for research.
