United States intervention in Latin America has its roots in the nineteenth century and in the Monroe Doctrine which was first illustrated in 1823, but the Cold War provided a new face to American hegemony there.  These collected studies examine U.S. politics in Latin America in the second half of the twentieth century, demonstrating that North-South relations in an increasingly globalized world are as relevant as the Cold War in examining relations between Washington and Latin America.
