11 Giugno 1289.

Let us go back to 11 June 1289. On the sunny plain of Campaldino, below the castle of Count Guido at Poppi, the Guelphs and Ghibellines face each other in a decisive battle that will decide the fate of Tuscany and the future political and economic balance of Italy. Among the Florentine ranks stand Dante Alighieri and Cecco Angiolieri.
This is an impassioned and gripping reconstruction of the places, events and personalities: a historic novel in which nothing has been invented, in which each detail is the product of rigorous research.
At Campaldino the Florentines were seeking revenge for their utter rout at Montaperti in 1260. Arezzo was fighting for its survival. What followed was one of the bloodiest battles of the Middle Ages. It was a battle that would be immortalised by Dante in his Divine Comedy, a battle that would bring to an end the age of the aristocrats and leave the door wide open for a society of merchants.

Preface by Franco Cardini.
