One of the great masters of the 20th century, Giulio Paolini (Genoa, 1940) lives and works in Turin. Having formulated his own entirely original poetics in his early twenties, he is the creator of sophisticated formal and conceptual constructions with which he explores the value of creation and representation. The tools of his art, the author’s own figure and his relationship to that image, the theme of the double, and theatrical staging, are just some of the central themes in his pieces, works in which countless artistic, literary and philosophical references are deposited and brought to life again. He has had major exhibitions in galleries and museums the world over, and from the start of his career has also associated his artistic practice with literary research.
