Piero Barucci is full Professor of History of Economic Thought at the University of Florence. He has also taught Economics in Siena and Florence, where he has been Head of Department at the Faculty of Economics.
He has been president and managing director of some of the most important banks and insurance companies, in Italy and abroad, as well as president of ABI (Italian banks association) from 1987 to 1991. He founded Banca Leonardo.
He has been Italian Minister of Treasury and Public Function in the Amato government (june 1992 – april 1993) and Minister of Treasury in the Ciampi government (april 1993 – april 1994). He is now member of the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (Italian Competition Authority, better known as the Antitrust Authority)
