Stephen Tobin is a translator, photographer and author born in Istanbul, Turkey to an Anglo-Irish father and a Belgian mother. Educated in the British Isles, he has lived in England, France and Belgium, and now resides with his wife and children in Florence, where he put down roots over 30 years ago (after spending a year in Rome and another in Venice). His overriding interest is in European and Middle Eastern medieval history, and his The Cistercians, Monks and Monasteries of Europe (The Herbert Press) which took him on a photographic campaign to the four corners of Europe and the Middle East, was published in English and French, with a separate US edition. He has also translated Renzo Manetti’s The Secret of San Miniato (Polistampa) which is due to be published next year.
