Andrzej Tomaszewski

Mr. Tomaszewski is art historian and architect and full professor of History of architecture and Preservation of cultural property at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1981-1985 he was visiting professor in Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin Institute for Advanced Study in West-Berlin; in 1996-1997 visiting professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz; in 1988-1992 Director-General of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property ICCROM in Rom; in 1995-1999 Director-General of Cultural Property of Republic of Poland. 1984-1993 President of ICOMOS International Training Committee. In 2003-2008 he served as president of Polish National Committee of ICOMOS.
Currently he covers the role of president of ICOMOS Scientific Committee for the Theory and the Philosophy of Conservation and Restoration. President of the Polish National Committee of ICOM. He is member of the German Academy of Urbanism and Territorial Planning, and of the Russian Academy of Cultural Heritage. He is lecturer at many universities, supervised archaeological excavations and restoration works in Poland and other European countries. He is co-editor of this publication, together with Michael S. Falser and Wilfried Lipp.
Tomaszewski has above two hundred publications about the preservation of cultural heritage, above others: Materielle und immaterielle Werte von Kulturgütern in der westlichen Tradition und Wissenschaft, in Güttler L.
