Mario Luzi

Mario Luzi was born in Florence on the 20th October 1914. in 1926 he moved to Siena, however he came back to Florence in 1929, where he graduated in French literature. He later taught in high schools and, from 1955, he gained the lectureship of French literature at the faculty of political studies “Cesare Alfieri” in Florence. 
He is considered one of the founders of the poetical stream of the “Ermetismo” and one of the greatest Italian poets. He moved the first steps as a poet in the 30s (his first collected works were released in 1935), when he started to collaborate with other poets of the ermetic stream and to write for avant-garde magazines such as “Frontespizio” and “Campo di Marte”.
In 2004 he was made life senator by the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. He died on the 28th February of the following year at the age of ninety in his beloved Florence.
