I cappelli di paglia di Firenze, famosi in Europa come chapeaux de paille d’Italie e nel mondo come Leghorn hats, costituiscono la produzione eminente della comunità di Signa (Firenze). Le ditte che operano nel settore sono numerose e molte vantano un’attività secolare. Tra di esse l’impresa della famiglia Catarzi festeggia quest’anno il suo centenario nello stesso luogo della sua fondazione. Si tratta di una felice occasione e il Museo della Paglia e dell’Intreccio si unisce ai festeggiamenti accogliendo nella Collana Testi e Studi, sezione Eventi, il volume che i Catarzi pubblicano ricordando le vicende della loro famiglia e dell’impresa, inquadrandole nel contesto più generale della storia delle manifatture artistiche. Nell’arco dei suoi cento anni l’azienda, coinvolgendo generazioni di operatori, ha consolidato la fortuna del Casale dei Colli ove tutt’ora continua ad attirare l’attenzione di una vastissima clientela, nel segno di quella vitalità e qualità produttiva caratteristiche del bacino imprenditoriale della Piana.

The straw hats from Florence, known in Europe as chapeaux de paille d’Italie and in the world as “Leghorn hats”, are the remarkable production of the Signa (Florence) community. The firms working in this sector are numerous and many of them can boast a hundred-year-old activity. Among them is also the Catarzi family company that this year celebrates its hundredth anniversary in the same place where it was founded. It is a happy occasion and the Museo della Paglia e dell’Intreccio joins in the celebrations by welcoming in the Eventi section of the Testi e Studi series, this volume published by the Catarzi family which retraces the history of the family and of their enterprise by setting it in the more general background of the history of artistic handicrafts. In the hundred-year span of its activity, the company, which has its seat in Via dei Colli, has put its fortune on a sound basis, employing generations of workers, and still continues to attract a very large clientele, in line with the vitality and production quality typical of the enterprises of our plain.
